Our History

Established in 2018.

EL Chilar was born out of an idea of being A Mom and Pop restaurant on the East side of town. This little business opened its doors in Topeka in June of 2018. We relocated from Alabama and decided to continue the tradition of great homemade food. We look forward to being your hometown restaurant. Thank you Topeka for the warm welcome you have given our Family. We look forward to building long term relationships with the residents of this great city.

I have been in the restaurant business over 17 years. First from waiting on tables later managing a 5 star steakhouse called Hollywood Prime in the Westin Diplomat Resort and Spa in Miami Beach Florida. Later helping Manage a few Mexican restaurants and a pizzeria in Alabama. To finally opening a Steakhouse in the town of Wedowee Alabama. We relocated to Topeka in July of 2017 and began this dream of establishing ourselves in this great community. My experience in the culinary field began in the late 90’s as I helped my Family run a small Italian restaurant and Pizzeria. Later I began seeking other ethnic flavors which led me to learn about steaks and fine wine. As my knowledge expanded, I began to seek out more flavorful foods that America loved and realized that Maria’s cooking was as good as it gets. She cooked with her Grandmother and Mother from the age of 12 and always loved the kitchen. We Were blessed to have the same passion for the kitchen and to serve the Lord. So here we are.
